The Junior Dragons’ Den live show is happening this Friday, May 1, at the Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail and students and judges got together on Wednesday for a final run-through before the event.

A  Greater Trail Community Futures initiative, Junior Dragons’ Den is modeled after CBC’s popular show in which budding entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to potential investors. On Friday, West Kootenay students from Grades 8 through 12 and, new this year, college and trade school, will face the judges to compete for $9,000 in prizes.

The audience gets to participate, too, with 20 per cent of final votes being determined by an electronic voting system.

Columbia Power is a sponsor of the event and their Director of Finance, Tasso Tsalamandris is also one of the judges, along with Trail Mayor, Mike Martin; Spencer Smith, VP of Commercial Services at Pacific Coastal Airlines; John Helm, Program Director at the Goat and Juice FM; Karen Bennett, Publisher of Nelson Star; Kevin Jolly, Kootenay Savings District Manager for Trail and Warfield and last year’s Jr. Dragons’ Den winner in the senior category, Jordan Strobel.

The live show gets underway at 7 pm – admission is free. For more information on Junior Dragons’ Den visit www.juniordragonsden.ca
