Front line RCMP officers mobilized early Friday morning to respond to a report of shots fired into a Salmo area home.

“On Jan. 15, just before 3:50 a.m., Salmo RCMP received a report of a dynamic situation unfolding at a property located in the 1800-block of Airport Road in Salmo,” said RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Initial reports from the scene indicated that an adult woman suspect had attended the property and allegedly discharged a firearm at the home.””

Four adults were inside that home at the time of the shooting, all were reportedly uninjured. One of the occupants of the residence discharged bear spray towards the suspect, who fled the area.

Salmo RCMP was supported by front line officers from both the Trail RCMP and Castlegar RCMP Detachments. Officers responded to the scene, established an area of containment and began the process of gathering physical and witness evidence.

The police investigation led officers to the location of the suspect at another nearby property, where she was taken into custody without further incident, said O’Donaghey. RCMP believe the incident was isolated in nature, and therefore do not believe there is any further risk to the general public.

“The investigation remains underway, and will be supported by forensic specialists with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section. The suspect, a 43-year-old Salmo woman now faces potential criminal charges. She remains in custody at this time.”

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Salmo RCMP at 250-357-2212.
