A Fruitvale man in his late 70s is lucky to be home safe, according to RCMP Sgt. Rob Hawton.
"On June 7, shortly after midnight, a Fruitvale resident reported her elderly husband had been missing for approximately eight hours," Hawton said. "He was last seen going for a walk toward the railroad tracks. Being away for this amount of time and that late was definitely not normal.
"South Columbia Search and Rescue (SAR) was activated and subsequently located the gentleman at around 2 a.m. near the tracks east of Fruitvale. He had become exhausted and sat down however was then unable to get back on his feet.
"There were no obvious signs of injuries however hypothermia had started and he was taken to hospital by ambulance for examination."
