Tourism Rossland is pleased to announce that the Free Ride Shuttle began on Saturday December 12th in conjunction with the opening of RED Mountain Resort.  The shuttle operates on a similar schedule to previous years, from 7:30am to 10:30pm every hour looping between downtown Rossland and the Red Mountain Base area with stops throughout the community.  This project is paid for with provincial funding from the Resort Municipality Initiative, and contributions from over 40 local businesses.

“The shuttle between downtown Rossland and Red Mountain is a valuable transportation link for visitors and residents. It makes it easy for people to go back and forth, supporting local businesses and making a visit to the region more enjoyable. The B.C. Government is pleased to support this project through Resort Municipality Initiative funding.” – Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour

The goal of the Free Ride Shuttle Bus is to provide safe, convenient and accessible transportation between downtown Rossland and the base area at Red Mountain Resort.  More information on the service is available at: http://tourismrossland.com/winter-free-ride-ski-bus

“We are excited to have been able to put this shuttle service together again for the 3rd year, and are delighted in the response from the local business community.  With over 40 sponsoring businesses it shows the importance of this service to both the community and the local economy.  The inclusion of the BC Transit Ski Bus to our system, also allows us to provide service to more of our community and our guests during the peak hours. ” said Deanne Steven, Executive Director of Tourism Rossland.

This project is another great collaboration between Tourism Rossland and the local business community and is an excellent example of how funds can be leveraged to create projects that have a positive impact on the community.  It also highlights the importance of the Resort Municipality Initiative funding in continuing to improve our tourism offerings.

The Province is investing $10.5 million through the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) program for tourism infrastructure and amenities in 14 resort communities. The RMI program helps resort municipalities to increase the number of visitors and their length of stay, broaden resort activities to expand the length of the tourist season, increase employment, and to diversify the local tax base.

Tourism Rossland is Rossland’s Destination Marketing Organisation whose mission is to work in a fair and unbiased manner to grow Rossland’s year round tourism economy within the context of the community’s vision and values.
