The food on your plate here in the West Kootenay likely comes from all around the world, but globalized food systems leave us vulnerable to pressures beyond our control. Droughts and other breakdowns can hike food prices and limit supply. This situation has led communities across the country to strategize ways to make their regional food more secure.

How can we strengthen local food systems in the West Kootenay and prepare for a stable and resilient future?

Join the Rossland Sustainability Commission at the Old Rossland Firehall on Thursday, May 11, 7 pm for a free public lecture by nationally respected food expert Abra Brynne of the BC Food Systems Network.

Arrive at 6 p.m. for a community dinner ($10) of hearty homemade soup, fresh sourdough bread and refreshments, all prepared by one of our local chefs.  Or arrive at 7:00 for just the talk.

Abra will share insights into the many creative ways communities have used to bolster their local food systems. With 25 years of experience in questions of production, processing, distribution, marketing, purchasing, preparation, and uses of waste, Abra’s talk is certain to fuel innovative ideas for Rossland.
