Columbia Basin Culture Tour: Get a fresh perspective on the local arts and heritage scene!

The twelfth annual Columbia Basin Culture Tour is a fun weekend that combines a road trip with a customized cultural experience like no other. Visit artists’ studios, museums, art galleries and heritage sites at your own pace. With venues, exhibitions, artwork and performances changing every year, there is always something new to experience.

Visit the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre for some family friendly fun, learn about mining and social history of the area. Also in Rossland is local artist Tricia Rasku with TR By Hand. Visit Kootenay Gallery of Art and the Doukhobor Discovery Centre Museum and Selkirk Weavers’ & Spinners Guild in Castlegar before checking out Castlegar Sculpturewalk downtown on your way to visit  the skilled artists in Robson and Glade. In Nelson, Touchstones Museum and Kootenay Co-op Radio will take visitors on tours of the facilities and many artists are opening up their studios to show their newest works.

This year there are a number of new artists’ studios including Reclaimed Wood Goods in Robson, as well as Rusty Redstar and Dave Dando in South Slocan.The Slocan Valley features the beautiful ceramics of Robin DuPont and Christine Fortier and many talented sculptors and painters, theorugh Nakusp to Revelstoke.

These are just some of the fabulous venues and communities on the 2020 Columbia Basin Culture Tour; there are 64 venues in total, with something to interest everyone. This free, self-guided tour happens August 8 & 9, from 10 am to 5 pm. Venues are implementing COVID-19 protocols as per provincial guidelines. Grab a map, your Culture Tour Directory, and go! Look for directories at tourist info centres now or order one online.
