Planning for Rossland’s 23rd annual Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas is underway, thanks to the Trail & District Chamber of Commerce and a group of Rossland volunteers.

“For the past 2 years,  Tourism Rossland has kindly taken on responsibility for organizing the Rekindle event”, explained Rekindle volunteer Ann Damude. “But event management is not part of Tourism Rossland’s mandate and they were unable to continue being the lead.”

A group of local volunteers stepped up to fill the gap and have entered into a partnership with the Trail & District Chamber of Commerce.  “The Chamber is delighted to be involved with this year’s Rekindle event. It is a wonderful way to kick off to the holiday season, ” said Audry Durham, Executive Director for the Trail and District Chamber.

This year’s event will once again feature a Reindeer Prance down main street,  photos with Santa at the Library, the Christmas Tree lighting and a street market featuring artisan and food vendors.  Many of the downtown businesses will be hosting special activities and sales in their shops.

And you`ll want to visit as many downtown shops as possible and fill in a ballot to win a Wagon Load of Gifts.  “ Every year, downtown shops donate a gift to be included in the Gift Basket draw that happens at the tree-lighting.  But the baskets were just getting too big to carry!“ laughs Rekindle Coordinator Debie Leroux, “ so this year, we`ve put all the gifts in a kids little red wagon.  The lucky winner will win the wagon and a wagon load of gifts from downtown merchants.“

Rekindle the Spirit of Christmas takes place on Saturday Dec 2nd between 10am – 5 pm in downtown Rossland.  The full Rekindle event schedule will be available soon at www.trailchamber.bc.ca
