Fourteen teams took part in the Rossland Legion’s annual Arnie Sherwood Memorial bonspiel on Sunday, February 26th.

Curlers came from Nelson, Castlegar, Trail and Beaver Valley to join the Rossland curlers for this fun event.  The teams were put together by the organizing team from all the curlers, in order to promote curling fellowship and friendship.

They obviously did a good job of mixing up the skill levels since we ended up with a four-way tie at the end of the three games in Draw 1 and a 2-way tie for 3rd place in Draw 2.

The four-way tie for Draw 1 were the teams skipped by Gene Mauriello, Bill Bohn, Shane Preedy and Ken Stephenson.  The winning teams were chosen by drawing names out of a hat.  The winning team shown in the photo for Draw 1 was skipped by Gene Mauriello, third was Lorrie Walmsley, second was Melvin deBriske and lead was Terry Combs.

The winning team for Draw 2 was skipped by Wes Meger, third Chris Plamondon, Second Stan Donaldson and lead Joe Sigethy.

It was an enjoyable day for all, with an excellent, breakfast, lunch and dinner provided the Legion Ladies Auxiliary.    Many curlers commented that they make an extra effort to attend this bonspiel so they can enjoy the delicious food served by the Ladies Auxiliary.

The curlers send out a big “thank you!” to the bonspiel’s generous sponsors for making this event possible. Ferraro Foods, Butch Boutry, Rossland Beer Company, Redstone Golf Club, Castlegar Golf Club, Birchbank Golf Club and Klassic Kuts barber shop supplied the event with many great raffle prizes.

The Rossland Legion has held bonspiels for 48 years and looks forward to hosting this event for many years to come.
