73-year-old Castlegar woman faces two years in jail
On May 15, 73-year-old Joyce Ramsden was convicted of trafficking in cocaine and sentenced to two years in jail.
 
Forty-four-year-old Rodney Gritchen was found guilty of Possession of cocaine and handed a $400 fine.
 
The matter regarding the third male, 49-year-old Peter Nevakshonoff, is still before the courts and he is scheduled to appear in September.

POLICE: Busted grow op no 'Ma-and-Pa' enterprise

Earlier this morning, members of the Castlegar RCMP detachment, along members of the crime reduction unit, executed a search warrant for theft of electricity at a residence located on Columbia Road in Ootischenia, according to Cpl. Darryl Orr.

"Upon entry into the residence, a sophisticated three-room grow op was discovered containing approximately 400 marijuana plants," Orr said. "During the search, members did locate the hydro-electric bypass, which has been removed, and power to the residence has been cut off for safety.

Police have now confirmed that a body suspected to be that of a missing Slocan 18-year-old is, indeed, Daniel Crossley.

In a press release issued at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little said, "The RCMP are now able to confirm the identity of the body recovered  from the lake near Slocan City as that of Daniel Crossley, who was reported missing on April 23.

With Spring here and summer just around the corner, the Nelson West Kootenay Traffic Services and Nelson Integrated Road Safety Unit would like to remind the motoring public of some very important vehicle safety features.
 
Since 1990, it has been mandatory for Canadian vehicles to have daytime running lights; these are the lights that automatically come on when the vehicle is in motion. If a car is imported and is without this feature, it is compulsory to have these lights installed.

UPDATE: Police looking to thank people who saved man's life

Grand Forks RCMP and the Christina Lake Fire Rescue Department are looking for the people responsible for saving the man who's car wound up in the creek outside Christina Lake over the weekend.

The 39 year-old Burnaby man who was pulled from the wreckage of his upside down vehicle by witnesses, was taken from the accident scene to the Boundary Hospital on Saturday April 20 were he was kept overnight for observation and then later released, said Grand Forks RCMP staff sergeant Jim Harrison.

Trail man to face trafficking charges

A Trail man will be facing charges for trafficking cocaine, according to Crime Reduction Unit Cpl. Darryl Orr.

"On April 13 at 2:30 a.m., members of the Trail Crime Reduction Unit arrested a 32-year-old male for Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act," he said.

"The male was stopped in a vehicle by Crime Reduction Unit members shortly after leaving a local bar. Approximately four grams of Cocaine and $490 in cash was seized during the suspect’s arrest."

Kaslo RCMP Cpl. Shaun Begg says yet more of the property stolen during Break and Enters involving 4 unoccupied buildings in the Johnson's Landing slide area has shown up, this time on the front steps of a local church. Other property, believed to have been stolen from residences in an area still deemed to be unstable from an earlier fatal mudslide some eight months ago, turned up about three weeks ago, piled neatly at the side of an area road.

Two charged in Castlegar arsons

Two people have been charged with arson in relation to two fires that destroyed a van and a church in Castlegar last week, according to RCMP Inspector Nick Romanchuk.

“18-year-old Lee Wilding of Castlegar and a 16-year-old Castlegar female have been charged,” he said, adding he can't name the female because of her age.

Police issue press release re: fire #3
On March 28 at 10:08 a.m., Castlegar fire department received a call reporting a garage fire in the 300 Block of 7 Avenue in Castlegar.
Castlegar Fire Department and Police responded to the scene. A detached garage was fully engulfed in flames. The owner was located and did not receive any injuries. No one was inside the garage.
