The Columbia Shuswap Regional District issues two evacuation alerts - one for the Galena Bay area and another for Heather Lodge and the surrounding area — after two wildfires increased in size.

"A Wildfire burning southeast of Galena Bay has brought a potential safety risk,” the Columbia Shuswap Regional District said in a media release.

A message from the City of Rossland:

As of today, there are approximately 140 wildfires burning across the province of BC. In the Southeast Fire Centre, there are approximately 20 total wildfires burning  with 4 of them being fires of note (the closest to the City of Rossland is the Harrop Creek Fire, NE of Nelson).

The Independent Investigation Office of BC has been called after a man was shot by a Kelowna RCMP officer Thursday at a homeless camp on Duck Lake 7.

The incident happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday (August 3rd) when a Kelowna RCMP Officer was dispatched to assist a Kelowna City Bylaw Officer, in attending to a complaint of a homeless camp
