Trail market filling up fast

Trail market filling up fast

The City of Trail and the Trail & District Chamber of Commerce say vendor space is filling up in the Trail Market on the Esplanade for the summer of 2013, with over 50 per cent of the spaces already allocated for the full year.

Because the event achieved such tremendous success in 2012 with over 6,000 visitors and 125 different vendors, the Trail Market on the Esplanade is anticipated to be an even busier.

RSS drama presents Alladin--with puppets!

See video

Can fun and laughter be combined with mourning? We'll find out next week when RSS presents its final high school drama production before the trustees of School District 2o bus our enthusiastic young students down to Trail for reasons that make no...sorry, forgot this was the Arts and Culture section.

This final production is a production of Alladin starring an array of giant, 'muppet'-like puppets. The puppets, needless to say, are operated and voiced by our talented young students.

Food for thought: GDS-free shish kabobs like honey-mustard chicken

Food for thought: GDS-free shish kabobs like honey-mustard chicken

I'm so sorry I'm late getting this to you – believe it or not, I was trying to get a stuffed turkey in the oven early enough that we won't be eating at 8 or 9 p.m. Do I know how to celebrate Mother's Day, or WHAT?

The shish kabobs would've been my first choice for tonight, but they needed to be cooked and photographed early enough for you to make them your Sunday dinner, if the spirit moves you (or, if you're a mom like me, maybe it will move that angelic soul who's giving you a breather and doing the cooking for you).

Move over girls, there’s a new team on the horizon ready to take charge.

The Slocan Valley Vendettas pulled off the surprise of the night, knocking off league power Salmo’s Babes of Brutality 181-154 in West Kootenay Women’s Roller Derby League action Saturday at the Selkirk College Gymnasium.

The win was the first of the season for the Vendettas.

“We are so excited to say that we won our first bout of the season against the Babes of Brutality and it is our first regular-season win to boot,” said a Vendetta spokesperson.

Salmo's Rollick shines on home course to capture Junior Golf stop

Playing on his home course Riley Rollick is not going to get beat by anyone . . . not even Brenan Moroney.

The home-course golfer fired a 3-over-par 75 to edge the Birchbank Moroney and Aiden Browell of Champion Lakes by two shots to capture Salmo stop on the West Kootenay Zone One Junior Circuit Saturday at the Salmo Golf course.

Rollick carded three birdies on the day as players most players struggled with the testy Salmo greens.

The tour now shifts to the Home of Champions region as the players tackle Rossland's Redstone Saturday and Birchbank Sunday.

Advanced polling turn-out mirrors 2009 numbers in Kootenay West/ Kootenay East boasts better numbers

The results are in for advanced polling Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so far (with Saturday's due this afternoon) in the B.C. election, and while the province in general is seeing a voter-turn-out increase of about 20 per cent over 2009 numbers, Kootenay West district is very much on par, with only 14 more voters than we saw by this time in the 2009 election.

Kootenay East, despite having fewer registered voters, is enjoying a significantly greater turn-out.
