Granite Pointe at Nelson will be filled with many young golfers as a field of 80 takes to the Rosemont track Tuesday for a practice round in preparation for the 2017 BC Juvenile Golf Championships.

The 54-hole tournament begins Wednesday.

One of the players on the course is Brendon Makeiv of the Balfour Course.

The NDP government announced Monday, that effective Nov. 30, 2017, the British Columbia government will end grizzly bear trophy hunting throughout the province and stop all hunting of grizzlies in the Great Bear Rainforest.

The BC Wildfire Service is reporting a bit of good news with regards to the Kokanee Creek fire as the blaze did not register any “significant growth overnight.”

The wildfire that was sparked by lightning Saturday afternoon quickly increased to an estimated 70 hectares.

Three people have been sent to hospital with serious injuries after a car accident Saturday, according to Castlegar Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.

The accident involved one vehicle with three people inside. The vehicle rolled over near Rialto Creek forest service road, about nine kms off Broadwater Road in Robson, late Saturday afternoon.

Crews are focusing efforts on establishing guard. Depending on weather conditions, more smoke may be visible from this fire as a result of burn-off operations which are necessary for containment efforts.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre has placed 135 properties between Sitkum Creek and the Crescent Bay area on the North Shore on Evacuation Alert following the report of two wildfires north of Nelson Saturday afternoon.
